Car insurance on a rental car?

I know that when renting a car if you have car insurance you are also covered for the rental. However I also heard that the time the car is out of commission may not be covered and you may still want the liability insurance through the car rental place. Is there any truth in this?Car insurance on a rental car?
im not sure but usually collison waver would cover that part, everybody insurance policy is different so ask your insurance company and see which coverage you need, liability would just cover any 3rd party claim up to million dollar,Car insurance on a rental car?
Insurance goes with cars, not drivers, so when you rent a car it is insured. If you want to take their additional insurance, that would cover anything you did to damage the car.

Just having insurance on your own car doesn't necessarily cover rentals too. You can get that coverage if you like, but it isn't automatic, and usually your deductible would apply.
It varies depending on your policy. Car rental companies can charge you for loss of use and this most likely is not covered by your personal insurance policy. It may be covered by your credit card depending on the card. I would ask your insurance agent and check with your credit card company. I have found that American Express have the best car rental coverage and also have some car rental specific add ons for less than $20.
The only people who can answer this question with 100% confidence for your situation is going to be someone at your insurance company. The answer, amazingly, is different from company to company, as well as from state to state. So honestly, I wouldn't rely on an answer you receive through here. An answer that was true in one person's circumstances, may not be true in yours, and vice versa. Here is an in depth article covering this exact subject if you'd like to read more: http://www.knowyouragent.net/DoINeedInsuranceToRentaCar.htm
Hi, it is best to be over insured than under insured. While it is true you wll be covered by your own insurance the car rental cover is generally much higher. For example, you may have only $10,000 third party cover on your own personal policy which isn't much, whereas the rental company will usually have a much higher amount.
Yes this is true. I used to manage a car rental office and had dealt with this numerous times, but since I worked so closely with the insurance adjusters they paid for the few days the car was out of commission and of course I gave them a drastically reduced daily rate for doing me that favor and I would put that customer into another car so everyone was happy! I always suggest taking out the extra insurance from the rental car company. Yes you are generally covered in the rental, that is if you make a call to your insurance company and ask them if they'll cover you in a rental car. In virginia there is no deductible for the insurance you would carry on the rental car should you get into an accident. It's really something you need to be calling around about to see what all the regulations are.
Here is an article about insurance on rental car. Maybe help for you:

hey from my own experience its best to buy there insurance with 0 deductible for instance i rented a car for a week i bought there insurance even though i has my own some 1 backed into the rental car if i had my own insurance i would have had to pay the deductible $500 and also had an insurance increase because i bought there insurance for $50 for the week i had no deductible and my insurance knew nothing about the incident there for no insurance increase always buy there insurance you cant lose no matter what kind of insurance you have
No truth to what you heard. When you get in an accident with the rental car, your credit card will be charged for your insurance deductable (e.g. $250, $500, $1000). The insurance company will take care of the rest. Your rates will be increased based on your driving history, if you were at fault, and the costs of the damages (including medical).

If you rent for business, because your corporation sent you.... your corporations MAY have you wave the car rental company insurance as well. When they do this, it's because they are either self insured or the negoitated rate with the preferrred auto rental company INCLUDES the insurance (even though, the at the rental counter they may try and tell you otherwise).
