Do companies hire people (who need a one way rental car) to transport a car for them?

I am making a trip with friends to california. We wanted to get a rental car one way, then fly home. A friend at work told me that years ago he got in touch with a car transport company, that actually ';hired'; him i guess you could call it, to deliver the car. He signed paper work, they filled it up with gas and told him where it needed to go. So basically he did them a service, and got to use the car as his ';free'; one way rental that he needed for his one way trip across the country. Has anyone ever heard of this?????????Do companies hire people (who need a one way rental car) to transport a car for them?
Yep, but I don't know anyone who's actually done it. Rental car companies have cars going 1-way all the time (plus U-Haul types).

I've even heard of placing ads on your car %26amp; getting paid for it.Do companies hire people (who need a one way rental car) to transport a car for them?

I have heard of a guy who was retired and would do it for a ford dealer, but his runs were between 100-200 mis at the most.

If you're planning on driving across country, the owner may not want all the miles put on the car, plus they won't know what kind of driver you are, and may wreck their car.

You could advertise in a local newspaper, or ask at Car dealers, they may be able to put you in touch with a private party and it might work out. You won't know until you try.
