Smart to buy two at a time. Use one for parts.
If its a manual make sure all the gears change smooth. Syncros might be stuffed. If it was from a good rental yard it will have been serviced regularly and this would be a good thing. It may have been driven rough by a few drivers but it still should be ok if new enough. Stay away if done over 100km
I've bought several over the years. As long as you've seen the service history and it hasn't been in any major accidents, you should be ok.
Sure, people beat the heck out of rental cars, but at least the rental agency changes the oil (they HAVE to according to the deals they cut with the car makers). When you buy a used car from a private party, you don't know what you're getting unless they have all the maintenance receipts.
