Question about Rental Cars?

Hey guys! I'm planning a cross-country trip in July and I had a few questions about rental cars. FIRST, how old do you have to be? I'm 22, and I've had a rental before, but due to insurance and car repair. SECOND, are rental cars all one price? Like, I know different cars are different prices, but do you rent by the day? It's a good 1,200 mile trip, 2,400 mile roundtrip. How important is the insurance? I've always gotten it, but is it worth it for having a car over a week? ONE last question!! What's the best place to get a rental car from?

Thanks guys!Question about Rental Cars?
You can rent a car at 22, but will pay an underage fee; extra fee per day. The underage fees vary by company. Enterprise usually has the cheapest underage fees, but often have limited mileage on the cars.

Check several companies (on Priceline or Expedia, as mentioned) and make sure to take everything into account when looking at the total. Example, one company may charge more for the underage fee, but give you unlimited mileage.

Check your personal insurance and possible credit card coverages to find out if you are covered for loss or damage to a rental car. Make sure to carefully check all the terms and conditions related to the coverage (will you have to pay your normal deductible, would your personal insurance rates go up if you had an accident, if you use credit card coverage - is it primary or secondary and would any coverages that you have cover loss of use (which the car rental companies charge for every day the rental car is not able to be rented.)) Take all of these factors into consideration when deciding whether or not to purchase insurance from the car rental company.

Rental rates are charged by the day and you can often get a better daily rate on weekly rentals, as others have mentioned.

Do look to see if you have any discount codes. There are many membership programs (like BJ's, Costco, AAA, etc) and professional associations that offer car rental discount codes to their members. You can find a list of car rental discount codes for 8 different companies at http://www.best-car-rental-tips.com/disc鈥?/a>

Good luck with planning your trip this summer!Question about Rental Cars?
The majority of the places that will rent a vehicle require that the renter be at least the age of 25. Rental car pricing is different depending upon class of vehicle (Compact, subcompact, midsize... etc), They are generally rented by the day. If you rent for a week, sometimes you will get a break on the price, so the per-day pricing will actually go down. Depending upon the contract, you may or may not be charged with the miles that will be put on the vehicle. The insurance is a personal opinion. Most places offer supplemental coverage for your vehicle, and they also offer a theft or loss insurance. Some credit cards will cover the vehicle for the theft/loss insurance, provided that you pay for the vehicle using that card. This can be very beneficial, since this is generally the more expensive of the two insurances. As for rental car deals, you can sometimes find some decent deals if you have a AAA membership, or a BJ's Wholesale Club membership. If neither of these options are available to you, you may want to try one of the ';deal'; sites, such as Priceline or Expedia.

Have fun on your trip!
You have to be 21years old, and have a credit card. Rental cars are generally done by the day plus mileage. One company may charge less than another by the day but will get you on the mileage. This is a long trip you're taking. Some rental places charge upwards of 50 cents a mile. costing you $1200 round trip plus the per day price. Make sure you're aware of both prices before committing. Get the insurance. It's usually only like $13 a day or something and could save you big time if you even so much as scratch the rental. Enterprise is the best price in my area, (eugene, or) but you can get a good price sometimes with lesser known brands.
