Will land in boston; is it possible to take rental car into canada, or are there restrictions? advice re: $$$

when i booked a rental car in denver, they would not allow me to take it into canada. is this general policy , or ok at border locations? do you have to pay more for insurance, etc? Will land in boston; is it possible to take rental car into canada, or are there restrictions? advice re: $$$
The rental agency will need to be advised that you plan to take the car out of the country and into Canada.

If you have an accident or the car is stolen when you went to Canada, and you did not tell Hertz or whoever you rented from, the insurance clause may not be valid and you will have to pay for the full cost of the repairs or replacement cost for the car.

Make sure that you get their agreement (in writing if possible) that you can go to Canada. You will have to let them know where, when and for how long.

By the way, I am not sure if the customs agents can determine if the car is a rental when they scan or punch in your license plate, but I would guess yes. They may turn you back at that point so why take the chance. Will land in boston; is it possible to take rental car into canada, or are there restrictions? advice re: $$$
no problem, just have the propper ID and yes you need insurance on your car in Canada
Check with the rental company. Sometimes they will not want you to leave the country with a rental.
SteveN is right. My husband works on the border at Canada Customs, and rental cars are frequently turned back because they do not have clearance from the rental company to enter Canada, or they do not have insurance that covers Canada.

Be sure all your paperwork is in order and save yourself a long frustrating wait, only to be turned back.

BTW, your license number is punched into a computer, and it will show up immediately if it is a rental.
Well pal, i am from Boston, and the answer is yes. But a drive from logan airport to canada is a long one, you will have to cross NH, and head up through the north, i would say with the traffic leaving Boston down i95, that your total trip will take about 6 to 7 hours, so just make sure you prep. And just make sure you have all your info on the rental when you hit the border of canada, cause the mounties are tough! good luck
