Well, you have a few options. If you are only planning on seeing Disney parks, then your transportation is free. If you will be staying at a Disney Resort, transporation to any place on Disney property is included. If you are staing off Disney property, simply get yourself to Downtown Disney and take the Disney busses from there. If you would like to visit other Orlando parks such as Universal or Busch Gardens, you will need a rental car.

Yes. Even if you are on-site with either Disney or Universal, you cannot easily get to the other companys parks without a rental car.





I suppose you could manage if you really like paying expensive cab fares, but as a multiple-time visitor to Orlando and Universal/Disney, I very much recomment renting a car.

I am from LA and I cant live without a car or I feel like Im being held captive. So if you like the freedom to just leave the WDW resort area and maybe go to dinner or something it is worth it to rent a cheap car.
Yes, a rental car in the Orlando area is almost a necessity. Even if you are staying at a Disney hotel with a shuttle to their parks, there are lots of other things to see and good restaurants you will probably want to try as well as catching breakfast at a Denny's or less expensive place than your hotel. Daytona Beach is only an hour + from Disney. Cabs are very expensive and there is no public transportation to speak of. Rental cars are very reasonable in Orlando.
If you are staying onsite or your hotel has a shuttle, not really. If you stay offsite, I think it is a good idea to rent a car, just because their shuttles can take a lot longer. Onsite the shuttles are pretty quick and it is nice not to have to drive.





If you plan to go shopping or anything, you may consider renting. One trip in a taxi can cost as much as renting a small car.
If you're staying on-site (which i highly recommend), then Disney provides free shuttles to all Disney parks, Downtown Disney, and other Disney resorts. They also extend park hours for resort guests. Unless you're travelling to Universal or other area attractions, you won't need a rental car. Disney also provides complimentary airline shuttles, too.
Even if you're not staying on Disney property, most hotels have some sort of shuttle service to take you to the Disney World parks, so I'd say no rental car.
Some hotels have shuttles. If you are staying on Disney property and only want to visit Disney parks you definitely could save money by only using Disney transportation.





However, if you plan of visiting Universal Studios or elsewhere, you might want to get a car.

No but not sure it would be any cheaper not renting one. Between the tipping and faires it won't be cheap. Plus you need the freedom that a car gives you. Those amusement parks are not close together. If you stay in Orlando they will be closer and you can take a bus anywhere. If you don't mind commutes on the bus they are all connected.


They were going to put a train in straight across but not sure that ever got built.
It depends in the hotel you are staying, we stayed at the all stars movies and looked like everybody did, because those buses were packed all the time but for the other hotels were only a few people aboard. But I really don't see it necesary to spend the money if you have a free ride.
