I'm taking a trip to san diego this weekend, would you advise getting a rental car or take public?

I use public transportation every day.. Between the buses, trolley's, and trains I get around far better than if I was stuck in traffic all the timeI'm taking a trip to san diego this weekend, would you advise getting a rental car or take public?
I was there a couple of years ago, and I am from a place where the Public transportation stinks. But out in SD it was phenomenal. I was there for 2 weeks without a car, and went everywhere on the bus. Have fun!I'm taking a trip to san diego this weekend, would you advise getting a rental car or take public?
Definately rent a car so you have the freedom to go on your schedule. I would recommend the extra $$ for the GPS. We have a lot of freeways and it's easy to get confused and lost. Our public transportation is definately lacking.
I agree with Rosco.......If you have limited time, rent a car, if you have plenty of time to spare, public transportation will be fine.......slow but fine. Have fun!!
I would get a rental car this way you can come and go as you want
I don't do buses.
California isn't really public transportation friendly. Unlike other cities like New York or London, it's really not common to use public transport. (Even cabs are rare.) Aside from awkward stares for using buses, the other problem is they don't go as many places because there's just not a big demand for them. This is a city that definitely needs a car.
You can get any place you want to go on public transportation but it takes a long time because the city is so large and spread out. If you don't have a lot of time to waste going from point a to point b I would rent a car, the freeways are good here and as long as you don't hit a few choke points traffic is ok. Have fun on your trip.
Plan your trip so your hotel is near most of your expected activity and you won't need a car at all. If you're covering lots of ground and time is a factor, rent the car.
